Qu 3: Institutions

It would be my ideal for a mainstream publisher such as Bauer or PC Media to pick up my magazine concept because they have the greatest infrastructures and the greatest power when it comes to distribution to the major outlets such as Tescos, WH Smiths, and other supermarkets. I am aware that most magazines do not get such distribution straight away and so I have alternative plans. These days magazine readers have so much choice and it is difficult for magazines to last past their forth year in the UK. To increase their chances of success, most magazines encourage their readers to become subscribers which ensures greater brand loyalty and a secure source of funding. I would try to promote the magazine online by having a free version of it although this would be a cut down version and their would be a subscribers areas for specific articles and media. I think that my readers would be more like to stay as loyal readers than, say, teenage girls, and therefore I would really work on this key selling point in the way the magazine was advertised.

Pulse has a lot in common with magazines such as Q, NME and Classic Rock in terms of the audience demographics but I would be promoting this as a fresh, new option and I would be looking to develop as many cross-advertising opportunities as possible such as sponsoring other products to spread the 'Pulse' identity and expand the brand. Bauer and IPC have had success with such cross advertising opportunities within their magazines and also synergies with out media forms such as radio and that is why, ideally, I would want them to pick up my magazine. IPC publish NME so Bauer would be the most likely potential publisher.
