Q magazine cover analysis

Q magazine cover

The colour scheme for the magazine is very soft and sbubtle, and this makes the magazine look very classy and interesting. Brandon Flowers is the main image for this issue of Q. his clothes and expression and pose sum up his own personality and also his band "the killers" style. When you first look at the magazine, your eyes are immediately drawn towards the main image and then towards the other main cover articles written down the left hand side of the magazine cover page. The use of having a subjective gaze from Brandon Flowers is an attempt to draw the target audience into reading the magazine, and to attract them to want to read the article and others. Also the text related to the main image, "Brandon Flowers: Starman." Once again relates to the image, as his pose is in the shape of a star, and is trying to suggest that he is a starman in the music world. The writing included with the article headings is very straight forward and gives the reader what it would want. It also leaves the reader wanting to know more. For example with the take that article, it says; "Porn, suicide, butlers." Which is attracting the reader to want to buy the magazine, and then find out about the meaning of each of those headers. I think the preferred reading for the magazine, is a very aspirational and serious theme, although with the main image, it does add an extent of jokey. I feel the magazine is mainly more serious and informative then other magazines for example NME and Kerrang.
